They say there’s three certainties in life, death, taxes and an always entertaining weekend of NRL footy. This round of action had just about everything including golden point, a huge upset and some stellar individual performances.
We are going to take a look at those performances and once again provide our Team of the Week.
Prop | Terrell May
Terrell May goes back-to-back in our team of the week after delivering a massive performance against the Brisbane Broncos, racking up a career-high 236 run metres and making 34 tackles.
Prop | Toby Couchman
Jackson Ford can consider himself unlucky not to pick up another spot on our team of the week, but we have gone with Toby Couchman. The Dragons prop ran for 161 metres while adding a try assist and two line breaks.
Hooker | Api Koroisau
The Tigers rake was sensational albeit in a losing side. He was a menace for the Broncos making 47 tackles and capping off a super all-round performance with a try.
Second Row | Hudson Young
The Raiders heaped more pain on the Melbourne Storm and a big part of that was Hudson Young. In an 80-minute man-of-the-match effort he ran for 143 metres and made 33 tackles.
Second Row | Kulikefu Finefeuiaki
Kulikefu Finefeuiaki was a monster for the Dolphins in their heart-breaking golden point loss to the Panthers. He played all 85 minutes running for almost 250 metres with 129 of those being post contact.
Half | Nathan Cleary
Nathan was back to his best after being upset by the Bulldogs in Round 6. His kicking in general play was immaculate; he toyed with the Dolphins defence (especially in the 1st half), and, of course, he kicked the golden point field goal to win the game.
Half | Jamal Fogarty
The Sea Eagles have now won three from three since the departure of head coach Anthony Seibold and one of the players to have thrived in that period is Jamal Fogarty. Against the Cowboys, he was at his best, kicking 14 points, picking up two try assists and executing a clever solo grubber-and-regather to set up a try for Luke Brooks.
Centre | Herbie Farnworth
Although the Dolphins will be disappointed with the result, they should be delighted with the performance of Herbie Farnworth. He scored a try, was only two metres shy of 200 run metres, but it was his 12 tackle breaks that really made him stand out. Oh, and he’s a thief of the highest order, recording two one-on-one steals.
Centre | Latrell Mitchell
If Latrell continues with the sort of form he’s producing of late then we’ll run out of superlatives to describe him. His four try effort against the Dragons almost certainly sealed the fate of now ex-coach Flanagan. We might have to start calling him ‘The Slayer of Coaches.’
Winger | Lehi Hopoate
When you score two tries inside the first 20 minutes then you’re well on your way to securing a spot on the team of the week. Lehi did that and more so here he is locking up one of the wingers positions for this week.
Winger | Alofiana Khan-Pereira
The Gold Coast Titans let Khan-Pereira go and it hasn’t taken long for them to perhaps regret that decision. He showed his former team just what they missed out on with a try double to start the game. On top of that he had three line breaks and 5 tackle breaks. Ka pai Titans.
Fullback | James Tedesco
In a week where there were a number of outstanding performances by fullbacks, Tedesco stood head and shoulders above the rest. He scored a try and set up three others while racking up 271 run metres. Could we see James in a Cambridge blue jersey later this season?
