Archie Wilson breaks down every game of matchweek 1 and provides his best betting plays of the weekend.
Palace will host Manchester City to open proceedings in Matchweek Two, and based on last season, I think it is fair to say that, on paper, both sides have taken a large step backwards.
Palace are sizeable underdogs, even at Selhurst Park, and while I am not picking a result, I can see a few goals being scored in this one.
TipsBest: Over 2.5 Total Goals @ $1.65
Value: Draw/Manchester City @ $4.50
Anytime Goal Scorer: Nico O’Reilly $5.25
Saturday evening also brings an interesting game, with Liverpool playing their first match at Anfield this season against Oliver Glasner and his Forest side.
For me, I expect a bit of a bounce-back from Liverpool, who will want to shore up their defence, and I could see this being a low-scoring clash.
Tips
Best: Liverpool To Win @ $1.50
Value: Dominik Szoboszlai OR Cody Gakpo to Score (WAS $1.97) @ $2.50
Anytime Goal Scorer: Cody Gakpo @ $2.90
This is a battle between two newly promoted sides, and for the home team, Coventry, it was a welcome to the top-flight moment last weekend after they were blown away by Arsenal.
Hull City, on the other hand, had a massive day out by beating United with a couple of set-piece goals and, of course, keeping the Red Devils scoreless.
For mine, I am going to ride the wave of momentum behind Hull City, and I feel there is some value in them getting a result in back to back weeks.
Tips
Best: Hull City or Draw @ $1.91
Value: Hull City To Win @ $4.10
Anytime Goal Scorer: Oliver McBurnie @ $3.50
An evenly poised match-up here between Everton and Bournemouth, with the Toffees coming off an opening-weekend win, while the Cherries had City on the ropes until conceding a couple of goals in the final few moments.
This game is a real opportunity for both sides to make an early-season statement, and I think, with both sides knowing that, it could be a cagey affair at the Vitality Stadium.
Tips
Best: Under 2.5 Total Goals @ $1.92
Value: Draw @ $3.50
Anytime Goal Scorer: Justin Kluivert $4.40
Tottenham were really poor in week one, losing 3-0 to Brentford, and it was not the start Roberto De Zerbi would have been looking for in his first real season as Spurs gaffer.
They are set to take on a Newcastle side that have been obliterated this summer, losing plenty of their biggest names. However, last week’s draw against Liverpool was a big result for them, and I would not be surprised to see them continue their decent form to start the year.
Tips
Best: Over 3.5 Total Goals @ $2.50
Value: Newcastle United @ $3.00
Anytime Goal Scorer: Yoane Wissa $3.40
Both Leeds and Brentford could be poised for an upper-mid-table finish this season, and I am certainly intrigued to see how this one plays out, as I have rather high expectations for both sides entering the season.
For me if there is to be a decisive player in this one, I could see it being Leeds veteran striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin who has been in decent form over the past couple of seasons.
Tips
Best: Over 2.5 Total Goals @ $1.83
Value: Leeds United 2-1 @ $10.00
Anytime Goal Scorer: Dominic Calvert-Lewin @ $2.9
Both sides come into this one off opening-weekend losses, with conceding goals being the biggest issue for both. Sunderland were beaten by Ipswich while conceding two, while Fulham shipped three against Chelsea in a South-West London derby.
It will be interesting to see if either of these sides can button up defensively, but based on the one-week sample size, I would not be surprised to see both teams concede again come Monday morning.
Tips
Best: Both Teams To Score: Yes @ $1.75
Value: Draw @ $3.20
Anytime Goal Scorer: Joshua King @ $5.00
There has been a one-sided rivalry developing between these two clubs, with Chelsea constantly raiding Brighton’s squad and coaching staff. Understandably, Brighton fans are sick of it.
That feeling has spilled over onto the pitch, with both teams bringing a bit more energy whenever they meet.
Coming into the weekend, both sides have three points in the bank after solid wins to open the season, and it feels like a big game for both to really announce themselves. When picking between the two, I am going to side with Chelsea, who seem to have a newfound energy under Xabi Alonso, while he also appears to have a lethal attack at his disposal.
Tips
Best: Chelsea To Win @ $1.94
Value: Joao Pedro 2+ Shots On Target @ $2.25
Anytime Goal Scorer: Joao Pedro $2.50
United were really poor on the opening weekend, and it was not the start Michael Carrick would have wanted in his first game as the club’s permanent manager.
They are taking on the Tractor Boys, who managed to come away with a well-deserved victory in their first game back in the Premier League. They will be looking to force another upset against United like fellow promoted side Hull City did last time out.
Tips
Best: Under 2.5 Total Goals @ $2.30
Value: Ipswich Town To Win @ $6.40
Anytime Goal Scorer: Bryan Mbeumo @ $2.63
Villa versus Arsenal has generally been a top-five clash over the past couple of seasons, but based on how the transfer window has gone, it feels like it will be an uphill battle for Villa to secure a Champions League spot come Matchweek 38.
Mikel Arteta, on the other hand, has his side raring to go, as they got out of the blocks quickly by beating Coventry 3-0 in a performance that showed the reigning champions are not resting on their laurels.
When picking this game, I am leaning towards the Gunners, even though they are on the road. They are just so consistent, and it will be a very tall task for Unai Emery to guide Villa to a win against the London side.
Tips
Best: Arsenal FC To Win @ $1.53
Value: Over 3.5 Total Goals @ $2.88
Anytime Goal Scorer: Bukayo Saka @ $3.2
