After what has been a humbling week for the Premier League, with the displays their sides have shown in the Champions League, it is time for all the clubs to turn their attention back to what is at stake domestically.
We are officially starting the run-in season, with so many games being critical factors in how this season might be remembered for all the clubs.
As we have done throughout the season, we have taken a brief look at some of the games coming up this week to preview them, while also selecting a couple of our best bets for the slate. With the prep work and research done for that, there is nothing left to do but dive into this week’s edition of the series.

One of the sides that were humbled during the week was Chelsea, who, with a calamity of errors by both manager and goalkeeper, now find themselves 5-2 down in a tie against PSG. Newcastle, on the other hand, will be feeling decent about things, having managed to draw with Barcelona while even having a chance to win on a couple of occasions.
So why would you back Chelsea? When it comes to the Premier League, Chelsea will be the hungrier side as they are within touching distance of third place on the table. With them looking likely to bow out of the Champions League next week, they need to end the year strongly to secure qualification again.
They also seem to have a knack for bouncing back from embarrassments, and this weekend, against Newcastle, is a game they should win. However, it would also be a feather in their cap given the quality of the opponent Newcastle presents to the Londoners.

In EPL football, there are plenty of strikers who come and go from the league because they cannot handle the physicality of it. One player that sentiment does not apply to is Brighton’s lead man, Danny Welbeck. The 35 year old striker made his debut in the league during the 2009 season and has been a rotational striker ever since.
This year for Brighton, he is enjoying his best goal tally for an individual campaign in his career, with 10 goals and two in his last three games. This weekend against Sunderland, I would expect Welbeck to be hungry for more and potentially add to his record tally.

This game could have the biggest implications of the weekend regarding the Champions League race, as Aston Villa and Manchester United, both on 51 points, go head to head. One side will be looking to leapfrog the other heading into the last few rounds of Premier League football.
For Villa, their shocking form of late couldn’t have come at a worse time. They have one win in their last five attempts and are coming off a 4-1 loss to Chelsea in what was supposed to be another closely fought affair.
United, on the other hand, are in much better form, winning all but two games under their interim manager Michael Carrick, and feel like front-runners to remain in that top-five region. This weekend, though, Villa pose quite a threat to United, as we know they are susceptible to stumbling when under pressure to be the dominant force.
I’m not saying United are definitely going to lose this one, but I certainly think Villa have a chance on the road at Old Trafford.

For the SGM, we are heading to Anfield as Liverpool are set to host Spurs in what is traditionally a top-six showdown, though with what Spurs have become, I’m not sure we can really claim that headline right now.
Liverpool are trying to remain in Champions League contention, while Spurs are resting players midweek in the Champions League to make sure they are fit for their relegation battle.
One player I feel is ready to feast on the shell of a side Spurs have become is Liverpool striker Hugi Ekitike, who no doubt has been one of the signings of the season and will back himself to find the back of the net in this one.
In a game where I think the Liverpool striker scores, I wouldn’t be surprised if Liverpool found plenty more against a Spurs defence that is conceding goals for fun right now. And while that might happen, who knows, Spurs might get one back, which is why I think this one could go over 3.5 goals in total.
The final leg of my multi is backing Liverpool to win. While Spurs will be desperate, I just think they are in such poor form that even a 60% Liverpool performance could see the home side over the line.
