World Cup Best Bets | Day 8: Friday 19 June

Archie Wilson shares his picks and plays for Day 8 of the World Cup.

Czech Republic
vs
South Africa
4:00am Friday | Atlanta Stadium
Czech Republic To Win @ $1.80

The second matchday of the World Cup starts with the two winless sides in Group A, with both teams getting the opportunity to put their name back in the mix for qualification.

Those sides are, of course, the Czech Republic and South Africa, who will certainly be approaching this one like a knockout game already.

Between the two sides, there haven’t been too many flashes of brilliance, but for me, if one side is to provide that, it is the Czech Republic. They are led by their striker Patrik Schick, who is a handful for any defence in the world to deal with, and if they can funnel the ball through him, you can expect some chances to come their way.

Tips

Best Bet: Czech Republic To Win @ $1.80
Best Goalscorer: Patrik Schick ATS @ $2.45
Same Game Multi: Czech Republic To Win + Patrik Schick ATS + Under 2.5 Total Goals @ $7.66

Switzerland
vs
Bosnia & Herzegovina
7:00am Friday | Los Angeles Stadium
Switzerland 2-1 @ $7.50

A sour Switzerland side enter this clash against Bosnia and Herzegovina surely with the bit between their teeth after conceding an equaliser against Qatar in their opener and having to leave sharing the spoils.

Bosnia, on the other hand, were welcomed back to World Cup action with a solid draw against Canada, with plenty of that being attributed to their fan base, who have travelled in their masses to see their side on the world stage.

For me, this one comes down to licking old wounds and firepower. Switzerland will certainly be looking to make up for their mistake in the dying embers last time out, while boasting a talent advantage, which is why I expect them to dominate proceedings.

Tips

Best Bet: Switzerland 2-1 @ $7.50
Best Goalscorer: Breel Embolo ATS @ $4.00
Same Game Multi: Switzerland To Win + Breel Embolo ATS + Edin Dzeko 2+ Shots @ $5.22

Canada
vs
Qatar
10:00am Friday |Stadium
Both teams to Score: No @ $1.57

The other game in the group of draws will see Canada clash with the last edition’s hosts, Qatar, which in all fairness should be one-way traffic.

Against Switzerland, even though they scraped a draw, Qatar were under siege, with the Swiss getting 26 shots off against them, making it quite astonishing they didn’t concede more.

Buying into the law of averages, if Canada are able to dominate like Switzerland did against Qatar, I think they could find the back of the net a couple of times.

Tips

Best Bet: Both teams to Score: No @ $1.57
Best Goalscorer: Cyle Larin ATS @ $2.05
Betcha Boost: Cyle Larin & Jonathan David Each Have 2+ Shots on Target @ $3.70

Mexico
vs
South Korea
1:00pm Friday | Dallas Stadium
Draw @ $3.20

There is just something about the home nation when it comes to the World Cup, and the energy surrounding this Mexico side is no different, with the team not only entering this one on the back of a dazzling tournament-opening performance, but let’s not forget that was their fourth win on the bounce.

South Korea, also coming off a win in their tournament opener, look set to deploy a similar side that earned them three points. Will that momentum be enough to force a win against a favourite in front of a roaring crowd? This time, I am not so sure but a draw could certainly be on the cards.

Tips

Best Bet: Draw @ $3.20
Best Goalscorer: Raul Jimenez ATS @ $2.70
Same Game Multi: Draw +  Raul Jimenez ATS @ $11.44
