We’re back from international break and looking ahead to match week 8, Liverpool are hosting Chelsea in what should be game of the round.
At the end of the week Liverpool may not be at the top of the table anymore with Arsenal and Man City closely behind with the chance to overtake them.
Red Devil fans will be hoping for three points over The Bee’s otherwise they will edge closer to the relegation zone once again and if that happens, I don’t know how much longer Erik Ten Hag’s access card to Old Trafford will work for.
Anyway, let’s see where we are leaning in this week’s fixutres.
Tottenham have had two weeks to lick their wounds after they bottled a 2-0 away against Brighton. Fans will be stoked to see Son Heung-min return after missing the last three fixtures with an injury.
While Spurs have lost four of their last six, West Ham are unbeaten in their last three. Interestingly these two teams have meet seven times straight after the international break with the Hammers not winning a single one of them.
I was shocked to see Aston Villa as underdogs in this one but then I remembered Fulham are only three points behind Villa on the table. They had an unbeaten run for a month before the streak ended at the hands of Man City at the Etihad. But they’re back at Craven Cottage this week where they’ve been really good for their home fans.
Villa managed their first clean sheet in the Premier League since April, but this didn’t result in three points for Unai Emery’s side as they were held to a 0-0 draw by United.
After doing the double over Fulham last year, Villa will be confident to get a result away from home but Fulham will be no pushovers.
This will be the first meeting between these two clubs in over 20 years. After an unfortunate start the Tractor Boys will be hoping to pick up their first win in the top-flight.
Everton had a disastrous start to the season but are now unbeaten in their last three. They do however have troubles on the road and I like the hosts to grab their win for the season.
Sitting in 14th the Red Devils need to turn things around quickly, they’re currently closer to the relegation zone than they are top four, and Ten Hag has led them to their worst start ever in the Premier League.
Fans at Old Trafford haven’t had a lot to cheer about but Brentford have not gained a point away from home this year which should give them hope this weekend.
Brentford scoring in the first 80 seconds of each of their last four fixtures has been the all the buzz and United are known for a late come back here and there.
Newcastle are unbeaten at St James Park for 11 games now but Brighton have been good when facing the Magpies having only lost two of their last 14 Premier League meetings.
I’m picking an entertaining game with end-to-end football from start to finish. Brighton’s last four games have seen at least four goals, so let’s hope to see another goal fest this weekend Newcastle.
Defending wasn’t part of Southampton’s game plan in either of their meetings with Leicester last season. They’re still searching for their first win this season and they’re going to have to be switched on for a full 90 minutes against this side who always seem to come good after the 60 minute mark.
Leicester won these fixtures last year 4-1 and 5-0, their skipper Jamie Vardy has scored eight times against Southampton. The dominance Leicester has shown over Southampton makes me think Jamie Vardy will be having a party this weekend at St Mary’s.
The Gunners pulled of a comeback to win from behind two weeks ago at home against the Saints. Something they weren’t able to do last year which derailed their title hopes.
The international break wasn’t friendly to Arteta’s men with many key players coming away with niggles and injuries. On the other hand Bournemouth could come into this one with all their troops available.
On the verge of history I’m backing Arsenal to record their 2000th win in English top flight football, becoming just the second club to do so. Their first win came as Woolwich Arsenal in 1904 when they beat Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-0.
Man City are paying $1.30 to win and Haaland is $1.44 to score at anytime? Ridiculous odds for a goalscorer but he is a literal robot so fair enough I guess.
Even though they upset them last year, Wolves have been dreadful through their first six games. But what they have been able to do is find the back of the net in most of their games and I think they can provide some value in this one and add to the total goals in the match.
League leaders Liverpool host Chelsea in what will be Arne Slots biggest test yet. We will see the leagues toughest defence come up against one of heaviest hitting attacks.
Without their number one between the sticks, Liverpool might be a bit vulnerable and with Chelsea’s fire power up top, I’d back them to net at least one goal away from home.
If Chelsea really see themselves as title contenders or at least top four, they need to get points at Anfield this week.
We round off the week with a game that is screaming draw.
Nottingham have shown they have one of the best low blocks in the league and their results show that. Beating Liverpool 1-0, a 1-1 draw with Chelsea and a 1-1 draw with Wolves.
Crystal Palace have been unlucky at times but I just don’t think they have enough in the tank to break down a sturdy Forest defence.
