Archie Wilson provides his daily best bets from across the US Basketball slate.
The season tips off with two of the best teams in the East and Detroit hosting Boston in what is a great early season litmus test to see where both teams are at during the very early stages of the year.
For Detroit there is no doubt they rely on their superstars at the one and five spot in Cade Cunningham and Jalen Duren. These two players are the heart and soul of what the Pistons are about and I expect them to bring their best on opening night against Boston.
SGM: Cade Cunningham 40+ PRA, Jalen Duren 9+ Rebounds & Paul George 2+ 3s @ $3.75
The King makes his debut for his fourth team in his long career, this time, of course, for the team from the City of Brotherly Love. Philadelphia have truly gone all in on their roster, and their first test will be against the reigning champions.
For mine, I can see LeBron in a new role, with more emphasis on off-ball movement and catch-and-shoot opportunities, which should give him better looks from beyond the arc. Regardless of Philadelphia’s rebuilt roster, I think New York’s continuity will get the job done on opening night.
SGM: LeBron James 2+ 3s & New York Knicks (-4.5) @ $4.25
The reigning MVP has had plenty of time to think about being bounced from the playoffs by this Spurs team, and there’s no doubt he’ll be chomping at the bit to get back on the hardwood and battle Wemby once again.
I expect Shai to take this game into his own hands and run up the numbers on the stat sheet.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander To Score 30+ Points (WAS $1.80) @ $2.50
