Spring Champion Stakes Tips 2026: Predictions & Best Bets

Spring Champion Stakes Tips 2026: Predictions & Best Bets

We have Spring Champion Stakes tips and predictions for the Group 1 2000m race at Randwick on Saturday.

Spring Champion Stakes odds have Global Goal as the current favourite, and she will be tough to beat in the $2 million feature.

Best Bet
#8 Global Goal @ $3.00

Global Goal is our best bet for the Spring Champion Stakes and looks the one to beat heading into Saturday’s Group 1 at Randwick.

The John Sargent-trained filly has been building nicely through the spring, and her latest win in the Group 1 Flight Stakes suggests she’s ready to take another step up over 2000m.

She has been racing with plenty of confidence, recording a win and two third-place finishes from her last three starts. Her Flight Stakes victory over 1600m showed she can handle pressure at the top level, and the extra 400m looks like it should suit if she settles comfortably.

Dylan Gibbons takes the ride from barrier 3, which is a big positive. He will settle just behind the speed and look to go straight past them late in the race, so include her in Spring Champion Stakes predictions.

Open Race time:
8. Global Goal (3)
J: Dylan Gibbons 54.5kg
1×331 T: John Sargent
Form hard to fault. Most recently won by a long-neck in the G1 Flight Stakes at this track on October 3 over 1600m on a soft track defeating De Armas carrying 56kg at $3.30. Before that 3rd of 9 in the G2 Tea Rose Stakes at this track on September 19 over 1400m, 1.1 len behind Bangkok Hottie with 56kg at $7.50. Should eat up the extra 400m and looks the one to roll again.

Next Best
#9 Proxima Dea @ $5.50

Proxima Dea can’t be left out of Spring Champion Stakes tips, and she comes into the race with an unbeaten record that is hard to ignore.

The David Payne-trained filly has won all four of her career starts, and she’s quickly established herself as one of the most exciting young stayers in the field, especially after a tough comeback win last time out.

She now faces her biggest test over 2000m, but the way she keeps finding the line suggests the extra distance could bring further improvement.

Zac Lloyd takes the ride from barrier 9, and given the way he’s riding this spring, the $5.50 odds are generous for this combination.

Looked down and out last time – a filly of considerable staying talent.

Best Roughie
#4 Wonka @ $11.00

Wonka is our best roughie for the Spring Champion Stakes and looks a nice value play at double-figure odds. The Chris Waller-trained colt has been building a solid record this preparation, and he battled on gamely to place last start.

His form heading into the race read well, and he looks to be improving at the right time. The 2000m shouldn’t worry him, as he settles well, and he can ride the speed.

Jason Collett takes the ride from barrier 2, which is a terrific draw. He should be able to save ground, and he could be there to strike at the top of the straight. The $11 odds are worth including to boost payouts.
