Might and Power Stakes 2026 Tips, Predictions & Best Bets

Birdman is our best bet in the Might And Power Stakes, with the Chris Waller-trained gelding looking ready to peak third-up.

He was outstanding in the Underwood Stakes at Caulfield last start, putting 1.75 lengths on Cosmic Crusader over 1800m. That was a strong Group 1 performance, and the step up to 2000m looks ideal.

He also gets barrier 2, which should allow Ben Melham to settle him close to the speed without having to spend too much energy early. There doesn’t appear to be an enormous amount of speed in the field, so getting the right run in transit could prove crucial.

Sheza Alibi is the obvious horse to beat, but Birdman has already proven himself at Caulfield and gets a useful weight-for-age setup. At around $3.70, we’re happy to take the price.

Sheza Alibi is the class runner of the field and deserves her position at the top of the market.

The Peter Moody and Katherine Coleman-trained mare has won five of her last six starts, including the Group 1 Makybe Diva Stakes at Flemington. She then finished second behind Pride Of Jenni in the Feehan Stakes before coming into this race freshened up.

The big question is the 2000m, which she is tackling for the first time. There is little doubt about her ability, but $1.36 leaves very little room for error against a quality Group 1 field.

She should be extremely competitive and could easily win, but we’re taking the better value with Birdman. However, she is a must-include with all Might and Power Stakes tips.

Treasurethe Moment is the runner we want to have something on at double-figure odds.

She produced a much better performance when second behind Pride Of Jenni in the Feehan Stakes last start, finishing just 1.5 lengths from the winner over 1600m. She gets another 400m here, which should suit, given her ability to settle and finish off her races.

The mare also gets 57kg and barrier 3, giving Daniel Stackhouse plenty of options. She may need to improve again to beat Sheza Alibi and Birdman, but the $11 odds are generous enough for place punters.
