On paper, this is a very good match-up with two sides that are supposed to be among the best from their continents. However, the start to both Belgium and Senegal’s World Cup campaigns were underwhelming from a results standpoint, which required big efforts on the last matchday to book themselves a ticket into the knockout stage.
For Belgium, they were a draw or loss away against New Zealand from being grouped at this year’s World Cup. For Senegal, they were unlucky to be in the position they were entering the last game of the group stage, just because their performance levels were probably worth more than just three points on the table, as they gave both France and Norway a run for their money.
From a body of work standpoint, it feels like Senegal have put a better foot forward, with Belgium only really turning up against New Zealand, while Senegal have proven they can perform against better sides. However, when looking at the outcome for this one, it feels like one that might be able to find its way to extra time.
