What a wicked matchup to kick off the World Cup quarter-finals, as tournament favourites France are set to face off with modern football powerhouse Morocco. The French have run away with being the best-performing side at this year’s edition of the World Cup and will look to keep that rolling into the later stages.
For Morocco, they have once again been a constant thorn in the side of “bigger” footballing nations and will look to push into consecutive semi-finals on the world’s biggest stage. For me personally, they have that kind of upside across the squad, with talent and tenacity overflowing, but the issue is they have come up against this super team in France.
Didier Deschamps’ side certainly doesn’t need any endorsement from me as to how good they are on paper, but it has been their ability to gel together and, most importantly, play their brand of football regardless of what the opposition are doing.
While I wouldn’t be floored if Morocco pulled off the upset, I am still leaning towards France going to their third straight World Cup final.
