Well, well, well, fancy an Auckland FC home Grand Final.
Go Media is going to be rocking on Saturday night with tickets having sold out almost instantly, extra seats have been put in and sold out just as quickly!
Auckland secured a spot in the Grand Final after taking care of Adelaide at Coopers Stadium and humbling all the Reds fans. They then secured the home GF after Sydney knocked off top-placed Newcastle Jets last week.
These two teams have met six times. Auckland has won three, and the rest have ended in a draw.
This should bode well for the Black Knights… heading into a final against an opponent that hasn’t beaten you? Yes please.
The reason for that could be because of how well Steve Corica knows Sydney. Having won both as a player and a coach with Sydney FC, he probably knows it better than most.
The Sky Blues, though, have put together a nice finals series. They’ve stormed into the Grand Final from 5th spot on the ladder. It’s been their defence in particular that’s got them to where they are now.
Auckland’s defence has been rock solid too, but it’s their attack that seems to be picking up right at the perfect time. With the home fans behind them, history on their side, they’re a real chance to lift the toilet seat without the need for extra time.
However, if you think we’ll need more than the 90 to decide it, Auckland FC to win in a penalty shoot-out looks great value at $11’s.
I know in a shoot-out anything can happen, but just go watch the Black Knights’ penalties against Melbourne City in the elimination final.
