A-League Round 21 Preview

A-League Round 21 Preview

Wellington Phoenix
vs
Perth Glory
3:00pm, Saturday
Both Teams to Score: Yes and Under 5.5 Goals | $1.83

As a Nix fan, before facing Adelaide last week, you’d be happy with a point. But after watching that game, you probably felt they deserved more, so it’s hard to tell whether that’s a good or bad result for them.

They’re in for a massive few weeks if they want to keep their season alive, and a key catalyst to it will be the young man up top, Corbin Piper. Piper finds himself in very good goalscoring positions, but as a defender turned forward, he lacks finishing. With more time in the saddle, he’s gotten better, and I think he will be able to bang in a few more before the curtains close on this A-League season.

They get a good opportunity against a Perth side that also sits close to the bottom, but they’re also a team that pushed Auckland to a 2-2 draw and held the lead for a portion in the second half.

The ex-Nix player, Stefan Colakovski, looked the most dangerous against AFC and put the Glory in front during the second half.

The Nix are coming off a 1-1 draw and look to be playing more conservatively under Greenacre. The Glory will be pushing hard, though and could crack this game open. I don’t see it getting too out of hand though…

Newcastle Jets
vs
Auckland FC
7:00pm, Saturday
Both Teams to Score: Yes and Under 4.5 Goals | $2.15

We have a huge game in terms of who will lift the Premiers Plate this season. Newcastle sit at the top and could stretch their lead further with a win over 2nd placed Auckland FC.

Auckland wasted no time against Perth with Cosgrove scoring inside the opening 10 minutes. They were comfortably the better side, but momentum swung the Glory’s way, and Auckland paid the price.

They will not be able to leapfrog Newcastle with a win this weekend, but could close the gap to one point; however, Newcastle do have had the upper hand in this contest over their last few meetings, with two wins and a draw.

The bookies have combined both Randall and Cosgrove to score one between them for some juicy odds as a Super Boost ($2.25), which piques my interest, but if I had to pick one, it would be Cosgrove. He looked bigger, stronger and more confident than anyone else in front of goal last week and should have had a second to his name from the assist of Francis de Vries before it was (rightfully) called an own goal…

Best: Both Teams to Score: Yes and Under 4.5 Goals @ $2.15
Value: Francis de Vries Anytime Assist @ $4.60
Goalscorer: Sam Cosgrove (First, $7, Anytime $2.70)
SGM: Both Teams to Score: Yes, Sam Cosgrove to score, Lachlan Rose 2+ Shots on Target @ $6.12
