We are making a switch up this week and rather than looking back at the past week of action in the sporting world, we are going to look forward and make sure you know about some of the biggest events coming up in the next seven days so you don’t miss out on anything.
After scouring through all the different leagues and sporting codes, I have managed to come up with what I see as the three biggest events set to come across our screens this week.
So, with those identified, why not dive into a quick preview of what to expect in each bout.
Chargers vs Eagles
To start off with, we have a primetime NFL matchup on Monday Night Football between two playoff hopeful sides that will look to narrow in on a decent seeding position. The AFC is wide open, with the wildcard positions all up for grabs, and the Chargers are well in the mix to secure one of those by the end of the season. The Eagles on the other hand are in a battle with themselves as they try to find the same spark in their team that they had during last year’s Super Bowl run.
The game will take place in the magical SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles and will be a battle of the ground game and defence. Personally, I am not sold on either team being a clear favourite, with the Eagles being the better side, but the Chargers having the better quarterback in Justin Herbert could make up that talent gap. It will no doubt be a game of moments, and whoever seizes the opportunity better will be feeling a lot happier about their playoff chances.
Blackcaps vs West Indies
Next on the docket of big showdowns in the sporting world will be the second test between the Blackcaps and the West Indies, set to take place at the historic Basin Reserve in Wellington. The game has a bit of extra spice to it after a classic display of test match cricket in Christchurch, with the West Indies successfully batting out two days for a famous draw and putting the New Zealand bowling attack in the dirt, who were already down two of their frontline seamers.
This week at the Basin should offer a more bowler friendly wicket and maybe a chance for 40 wickets, but the Blackcaps will need to call upon a couple of new seamers for the squad after the mammoth effort from the likes of Jacob Duffy and Zak Foulkes. The West Indies on the other hand will be feeling pretty good about things, with their bowlers essentially getting an extra two days of rest and coming off what could be described as a positive result.
Inter Milan vs Liverpool
To close out the three on the list, we have a big Champions League tie between two historic European clubs as Liverpool are set to face off with Inter Milan. The game comes at a bad time for the English side as they are floundering in both leagues and now draw one of the biggest clubs on the continent in what feels like a must win game.
Arne Slot is under a tremendous amount of pressure from the public, which has also been heightened by the fiery interview club legend Mo Salah gave after their most recent result. The question for Liverpool will be whether they can block out all the outside noise for this week’s tie with Inter, or whether the Italian side will be able to use that pressure against them and pile on more after the 90 minutes.
