Matchweek 7 is here, and ideally, we make the most out of this weekend before all the leagues go on yet ANOTHER International break.
Aston Villa have now won three games on the trot in all competitions, and Liverpool have lost two after going down 1-0 midweek.
With European football adding extra spice over the last couple of matchweek’s it makes for an interesting round of league games… let’s take a look.
As I said above, Bournemouth could jump into the top three with a win here because they play before every other team. It won’t be easy though against Fulham who continue to be up and down.
Two wins, two draws and two losses.
Bournemouth took four points from the two meetings last year, drawing away 2-2 and winning at home 1-0.
The Cherries are playing some good football, and that’s how they’ve found themselves in the top five. I’ll be backing the form side at home.
These two sides haven’t met since 2023, but Spurs have won each of the last four games and scored at least four goals in three of them.
Elland Road, though, has been a happy place for Leeds so far this season, and I actually fancy them to get something here. They’ve collected five of nine points at home this season, and they’ve all been low-scoring affairs.
Slightly different to what we’ve been used to from Spurs this season, but I think they’ll cause problems for the visiting side.
West Ham are paying $12 to upset the Gunners this weekend at the Emirates.
Mikel Arteta’s side looked very good against Olympiacos midweek, winning 2-0 and even got to rest a couple of legs.
Gyokeres came close to scoring in that one. It feels like the perfect chance for him to net another goal this weekend in front of the home crowd in a big Arsenal win.
Amorim really needs to start to pump out results; otherwise, there is a good chance he’s the next Premier League manager to lose their job.
And I’ll tell you what, no result is looking easy for United at the moment.
So many errors, especially from their defensive line and then they’re not cashing in on penalty chances either.
Sunderland have been more than sneaky to start this season. 11 points from six games and sit in fifth spot.
Old Trafford is far from the fortress it used to be, so my money is with the Black Cats.
The marque fixture this week.
I said earlier Liverpool have lost two in a row in all comps, well, Chelsea have only won one of their last four, which came against Lincoln City in the third round of the Carabao Cup. Their other three matches have been losses, and mainly thanks to their discipline issues.
Arne Slot has a few decisions to make this week. After two losses, there have started to be some murmurs around the likes of Salah, Konate and new signing Florian Wirtz.
Both sides desperately need a win here, but last year the home side won when these two teams met.
I think the problems continue for Liverpool and Chelsea finally figure out how to keep 11 men on the field and grab three points.
Crystal Palace are the only unbeaten side in the comp, and I’m saying that will remain to be the case heading into the International break.
Jean-Philippe Mateta has played a huge role in that alongside Ismaila Sarr and Eddie Nketiah.
Everton haven’t been bad but are on a bit of a rough stretch. They do allow the opposition forwards plenty of shots so I’m backing Palace’s front players to each register two or more shots in the match.
Newcastle are bigger favourites than I’d expected here, but back-to-back games at home, they hung in there against the Gunners last week, and they now face Nottingham, who continue to struggle.
Nottingham played European football this week, falling 3-2, but Chris Wood continues to leave his mark on each game.
I wouldn’t have picked this game to be 15th vs 17th, but here we are. It feels like a tight one that Newcastle come out on top of.
Wolves are dead last and still without a win in the Premier League this season.
Not a lot to say here except for Brighton at nearly even money… yes please.
Aston Villa have finally got the ball rolling, but Unai Emery will still be feeling the pressure from the owners and fan base.
Burnley might as well have not turned up against City last weekend, as they were thumped. They won’t be in for the same result, but I see this as a chance for Villa to keep building the momentum and snag another three points at Villa Park.
Burnley, though, have been able to score despite the losses. Back both teams to score with a Villa win.
Brentford played some lovely football last weekend in their 3-1 win over United. They now face the other Manchester side, who dominated Burnley last weekend.
Haaland has almost been unstoppable with six goals in three games, including another double in the Champions League a couple of days ago.
I would normally say back City to win and Haaland to score, but Brentford might pose a bit more of a threat than you’d initially think. Especially at home.
They drew 2-2 in this fixture last year, and when you compare both sides’ form, you could almost see a similar result.
I’d be surprised if City don’t grab three points, but my pick for this one is over 2.5 total goals, which has in their last two meetings and both of their last two Premier League fixtures.
