We’re back for Match Week 6 after some EFL Cup games have taken place midweek.
We saw the likes of Liverpool (saved in the dying moments again), Burnley, Spurs, Man City, Newcastle and Arsenal all in action.
Liverpool are making history again as they became tied for leading by the most amount of points after five weeks. They sit at a perfect 15 from 15 points available, five clear of Arsenal, Spurs and Bournemouth on 10.
This has happened on two other occasions, the first being when City raced out to the lead during the 2015/16 season. They ended up in fourth…
The second being when Liverpool did it in the 2019/20 season. They won the league that year…
Right, less looking into the past and more looking into the future. Let’s get into the previews for each fixture from Match Week 6 of the Premier League!
United and Ruben Amorim breathed a sigh of relief when they overcame Chelsea last week. The Red Devils are always under immense pressure, but this was a much-needed three points.
Brentford, as predicted, lost to Fulham away from home. Now they host United, a team they beat last time out 4-3, but in the last five have only the draw to go along with that win. Three other results have gone the way of the Red Devils.
United only have two wins this season, both coming at home, so I’m not convinced they’ll take three points on Saturday night.
On the other hand, Brentford have been much better at home. Notoriously, this fixture brings goals, so I’m backing the Bee’s or the Draw and Over 1.5 total goals.
There is also a Super Boost for the United fans out there. If you’re a fan of Matheus Cunha to Score or Assist, then get amongst it. Boosted from $1.87 to $2.50
After a chaotic loss last week, Chelsea are the better team at Stamford Bridge this weekend.
But recent form says they won’t dominate the Seagulls with as much ease as they’d hope.
Brighton, after going 2 nil up in the first half, allowed Spurs back into the game and had to settle for one point.
If Enzo Maresca can keep 11 men on the field this week, then I do think they’ll win, so I’m backing the Blues head-to-head. But for some added value, there’s a nice Betcha Boost with Chelsea to win and Joao Pedro to score at $3.50.
Leeds, in 12th, hosts Bournemouth who find themselves in 4th after five weeks.
Leeds have played at Elland Road twice this season and secured four points in those games. They’ve also not conceded a goal at home this season.
Bournemouth have contrasting stats here, let me hit you with some.
They’ve scored in 16 of their last 17 games, only three losses in their last 13 Premier League games BUT on 7 visits to Elland Road, they’ve never left with a single point.
I think based on both teams’ records, I’m picking a 1-0 win for the Cherries but it could quite easily be a stalemate.
The champs have a tough test on their hands when they head over to Selhurst Park and take on one of the top defences in the league.
You have to go back to mid-April to find the last time Oliver Glasner’s men lost a competitive game of football.
Hugo Ekitike saved the day in the Carabao Cup, but got himself suspended while doing so. This opens the door for Alexander Isak to step up. Isak also scored against Southampton, but he’s not going to have it all his way this weekend.
My money is with Crystal Palace and the draw here. Something has to slip for Slot, who let out a bit of frustration after Ekitike’s slip-up.
Pep Guardiola shocked the world last week at the Emirates when he put his side into a low block and watched his Man City side embrace the defensive scheme Pep has always opposed.
After going 1-nil up thanks to Haaland, the low block worked right up until the 93rd minute when they pressed a little too high and Martinelli made them pay.
Burnley, after becoming accustomed to life in the top-flight again have actually looked okay on the defensive side of things. They were unfortunate against Liverpool, and I think they’ll be tougher to break down than City may think.
We’ll see a more attacking approach from City this weekend, no doubt, but they can fall on their back line if needed. When Gvardiol and Dias have started as a centre half pairing, they more often than not keep a clean sheet, so I’m backing the correct score combo market with City winning to nil.
Ange Postecoglou is yet to get a win in Nottingham colours, and they’ve got a tight turnaround this weekend.
This is the test everyone was wondering about heading into the season for Forest. How could they balance Europe and the league?
We’re about to find out. But from the Champions League teams that played last week, only one of those six turned around and won during Match Week 5.
That puts Sunderland in a good spot to remain unbeaten in the league for over a month now.
Back-to-back draws for the Black Cats. Against decent teams too, I’m picking another draw here, and big Ange will have to continue waiting for those first three points.
Spurs did their Spurs thing, and Wolves got booed off the pitch at halftime.
Not much to say here other than Spurs should win this comfortably…
You could delve into the card markets for Wolves. I’d expect a bit of frustration from this side. Something like Wolves over 2.5 total cards, which pays $2.40.
Aston Villa won a competitive football game for the first time since May. They beat Bologna 1-0 in the Europa League.
Maybe it’s just the kick they needed to get their Premier League campaign underway.
Fulham have continued on their merry way with three wins on the bounce and are looking to snap a six-game losing streak to Villa.
They clearly don’t travel well to Villa Park and I’d love to tip Villa to finally win their first game of the season.
So that’s exactly what we’re going to do.
This is a huge weekend for the Gunners. Arteta needs to prove he can get Arsenal over the line, and a win at St. James’ Park would go a long way.
It’s never an easy game away at Newcastle, and they’re going to have to take the game to them this weekend.
Newcastle will have this underdog mentality here, especially after their start and cause Arsenal some issues, particularly in the midfield.
I’m staying away from the result and backing one of the new signings.
Eze has already proven to be a solid signing for Arteta.
He’s played just three games for the Gunners in the Premier League and has already got two assists and then a goal in the Carabao Cup midweek.
With injuries mounting up for the Gunners, Eze is going to have to step up and pull the strings.
The pressure is mounting on Graham Potter, and I’m surprised he’s still there, actually.
A rather predictable loss last week, and an old friend, David Moyes, could put them further in a hole.
We’ve backed Grealish before, and we’ve won twice on him, lost once, but he really is the maverick of this side, and stats are saying he’s been the most creative player in the league.
The majority of the Toffees’ attack comes down Grealish’s way, and he’s facing the worst defence in the league.
I’m going back to one of my favourite punts so far this season, and it’s Grealish to score or assist.
