NPC Round 2 Best Bets

NPC Round 2 Best Bets

There were some great games last weekend and some big upsets, which I hope a few people took advantage of. The big one, the Turbos 38-25 win over North Harbour. We had them winning, but couldn’t nail the try scorers in our value SGM.

Tasman, after one round, are on my no bet list for the rest of the round robin play. There is no reason a team with those names should only be able to score seven points, but also not even put up a fight. Credit to the Steamers, though, they look to be the business again this season.

Wellington were also unable to get themselves going at home against Canterbury and will be hoping to improve at the head to the Waikato this weekend.

Because it’s still early days and the bookies are learning too, the odds aren’t always that sharp, and we can take advantage of this.

Let’s get into our plays for round two.

Otago
vs
Hawkes Bay
Sunday, 4:35pm | Forsyth Bar Stadium
Otago +5.5

Otago did what they needed to do last weekend, fending off Southland on Stag Day.

They were efficient and have some good experience coming through with the likes of Umanga-Jensen and Miller in the midfield, and Hastie was also good in the number nine jersey.

They’ll prove to be a challenge for Hawkes Bay, who put on somewhat of a clinic against Counties Manukau. They got rolling and ran away with it in the second half but plenty of their success does come when they play at home.

The travel down south, and Otago’s toughness and grit, should keep this close and give themselves a chance to win it.

Counties Manukau
vs
Bay of Plenty
Sunday, 2:05pm | Navigation Homes Stadium
Bay of Plenty 13+

Counties Manukau were never really given a sniff last weekend against the Magpies as they fell to a 40 point loss. Unfortunately for the Steelers, they now take on Bay of Plenty, who look like they’re ready to go one better than last year.

Bay of Plenty steamrolled the Tasman Mako at home and have earned the right to be big favourites at home. They’ve already shortened in the outright market to $5!

The Steamers are clearly the better side, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see the margin get out to 20+

Canterbury
vs
Auckland
Saturday, 7:10pm | Apollo Projects Stadium
Value SGM: $15.30

We’re going to back another underdog for this weekend’s SGM. Auckland will be gutted after their one point loss to Waikato in the opening game of the season.

They fell asleep in the final 20 and let it slip. If they’re a chance at winning in Christchurch, that’s something they absolutely cannot do!

If Auckland are going to win this, it’ll be a grind so I’m pairing Auckland 1-12 with the under the total points line which is set at 55.5.

One man we’ll be hoping to see a try from though is Xavier Tito-Harris who impressed last week with a double.

  • Auckland 1-12
  • Under 55.5 Total Points
  • Xavier Tito-Harris Anytime Try Scorer

  • Otago 1-12

I’m sticking with one unit on each of the best bets, and half a unit on the value sgm and four leg multi. Let’s hope for some green ticks!
