Super Rugby Best Bets | Round 14

A rough welcome back last week, but with the pointy end of the season looming it’s time to lock in and pick some winners.

Hurricanes
vs
Highlanders
7:05pm, Friday | Sky Stadium, Wellington
SGM: Bailyn Sullivan ATS & Hurricanes 13+ | $2.54

We head to the capital on Friday night as the Hurricanes look to push their way further into the top six, and well, the Highlanders, they’re just turning up for the participation award at this point.

The last five meetings between these two sides has finished with the Hurricanes leaving victorious all five times.

Unfortunately for the Landers, they’ve been on a tough run to close out their season. Having conceded 30+ points in each of their last three games I don’t see how they’re going to be able to contain this Hurricanes outfit.

Bailyn Sullivan was the stand out two weeks back when he came off the bench early and walked away with four tries to his name. Surely he can grab at least one this weekend.

Waratahs
vs
Crusaders
9:35pm, Saturday | Allianz Stadium, Sydney
Crusaders -5.5 | $1.90

The Crusaders let me down last week. After coming out the gates hot, they stalled in second half and saw a 19-3 lead over the Chiefs turn into a 35-19 loss.

This week they head to Sydney to take on Tahs team that are down in the dumbs. Once upon a time they were in the top six and now they find themselves in eighth after three consecutive losses.

I’m going to keep this one simple and backing the Crusaders to cover the 5.5 point spread.

The Saders should’ve locked up last week’s fixture at home and may have scarred some punters off, but not me!

Fijian Drua
vs
Force
3:35pm, Saturday | Churchill Park, Lautoka
Over 58.5 Total Points | $1.90

A month or two ago this game would’ve been heavily skewed towards the Force. But after their rough run on the road they’ve tumbled down the ladder.

Last time these two sides met, the Force ran the score up, pumping the Drua at home 52-15. Defence has seemed optional at times for both of these sides which always makes for a fun spectacle.

I’m hoping neither of these sides have done any tackle practice during the week because I want to see that scoreboard keep ticking over.

Moana Pasifika
vs
Blues
7:05pm, Saturday | North Harbour Stadium, Auckland
Blues 13+ | $2.20

The game of round and a must win for both of these sides.

Moana Pasifika need to be nearly perfect if they want to cement themselves in the top six but they’ve got a tough road ahead of them.

The Blues have snuck their way into fifth spot and with BB playing the way he is they could very well go on a title run.

My heart wants me to say Moana, but my heart said to back the Drua last week and look how that turned out.

Brumbies
vs
Reds
9:35pm, Saturday | GIO Stadium, Canberra
SGM: Brumbies -6.5 & Brumbies Over 3.5 Total Tries | $2.15

Brumbies are always there or there abouts when it comes to the end of the season. Consistently the best Australian team and have dominated this match up in the past. Winning four of the last five against the Reds, they should be too good at home.

The Brumbies have scored 25 tries in since the last time they met the Reds and beat them 39-26. Averaging five tries a game, they should clear 3.5 with ease.

Due for a big one here.
