2024/25 A-League Round 20 Best Bets

Into the 20s we go, 10 rounds left before we get into finals footy and I can only imagine these last 10 weeks are going to fly by.

Nearing the business end of season, some teams are desperate to get a move on if they want to make finals. One of those being the Wellington Phoenix, whose pride is on the line in this week’s final edition of the Kiwi Derby.

Let’s see if we can pick some winners.

Newcastle Jets
vs
Brisbane Roar
9:35pm, Friday | McDonald Jones Stadium
Newcastle Jets to Win | $2.00

Newcastle are on of those teams that are making a push to crack the top 6. They’re 7 points behind 6th place Sydney but are on a 4 game unbeaten streak with two wins on the bounce.

The Roar had another week off after they picked up points in match week 18 after a 1-1 draw with the Nix. The bye weeks haven’t helped the Roar this year with them haltering any momentum they had.

Should be an easy one to get us underway, take the Jets.

Auckland FC
vs
Wellington Phoenix
5:00pm, Saturday | Go Media Stadium
Auckland FC & Over 1.5 Total Goals | $1.83

For the third time this season, the NZ Derby takes center stage with the Phoenix heading up to Auckland to take on the Black Knights.

Auckland have taken out both derbies this year and will be looking to get the broom out this weekend. For the Nix and their fans, they’ll be hoping to avoid the clean sweep and notch up another win to try and push them back into finals contention.

Just the one win in seven games for the Nix so Nix fans, don’t get your hopes up.

Central Coast Mariners
vs
Western Sydney Wanderers
7:00pm, Saturday | Industree Group Stadium
Central Coast or Draw & Over 1.5 Total Goals | $2.00

Four draws on the trot for Central Coast, and with essentially a full strength team they have a great opportunity to break that streak, grab a win and close in on the top 6.

Western Sydney are unbeaten in their last three games but haven’t looked like a play-off team.

Just last month Central Coast beat the Wanderers 3-1 and are on a decent stretch of high scoring games.

Central Coast have a great chance to win this game in what should be a game that see’s at least two goals.

Melbourne Victory
vs
Melbourne City
9:35pm, Saturday | AAMI Park
Both Teams to Score: No | $2.10

Melbourne City are a side that has been a snooze fest since the start of 2025. Six of their last seven games has seen two goals or less with only one team contributing the goal each game.

The Victory are desperate for a win and need one if they’re going to keep their spot on the table.

Being a derby game, it will always be tightly contested, and this match could be decided in one of two ways. A high scoring win to the Victory or a gritty 1-0 win to City. Either way, I think only one team will be getting on the scoresheet.

Perth Glory
vs
Sydney FC
11:45pm, Saturday | HBF Park
Joe Lolley Anytime Goalscorer | $1.95

Plain and simple, Sydney FC haven’t lost to Perth in their last six meetings.

Their last meeting ended in a 3-0 win thanks to a hat-trick from golden boot front runner, Joe Lolley. That’s a man that loves scoring against Perth having scored nine against the Glory, more than any other team he’s played.

Western United
vs
Adelaide United FC
7:00pm, Sunday | Ironbank Fields
Over 3.5 Total Goals | $1.88

Last time out, Adelaide United fell 2-1 to Newcastle and they fell five points behind the leaders, AFC.

With 10 rounds to go, Adelaide need to regain momentum if they’re to compete for the Premiers Plate.

Both sides are looking for a bounce back to end the week and with plenty of goalscoring talent across the park, I’m siding with the over.
