2024/25 A-League Round 19 Best Bets

Another week of A-League action to sink ya teeth into.

5 games on the slate this week and I think I’ve found 5 winners, let’s get into it!

Melbourne Victory
vs
Wellington Phoenix
9:35pm, Friday | AAMI Park
Melbourne Victory to Win & Both Teams to Score | $3.00

I was just about ready to give up on the Nix this season but then they go and sign Portuguese attacking midfielder, Francisco ‘Chico’ Geraldes. He made his way through the Sporting CP ranks rubbing shoulders with the likes of Diogo Jota and Bruno Fernandes.

The 29 year old brings plenty of experience to the side and his creative style of play will hopefully lead to more quality chances in the final third for the Nix.

In saying that, there’s not much hope this weekend when they head to AAMI Park, a place they haven’t won at in 22 games.

The Victory did fall to a shock 3-0 defeat to Newcastle last round but they’ve been inconsistent all year and could quite easily go and put out the complete opposite performance this weekend.

Melbourne City
vs
Perth Glory
7:00pm, Saturday | AAMI Park
Over 3.5 Total Goals | $2.20

Back in November, the Glory lost 5-0 to City during their terrible start to the season. They’ve managed just two wins this season and heading away from home they’re staring down the barrel of their 12th loss.

Melbourne City haven’t been dominant by any means and they’re spiraling with three losses in a row, but they should be able to get back to winning ways this weekend.

Historically these two teams leak plenty of goals when they meet with 52 goals across their last 12 games.

Western United
vs
Auckland FC
8:00pm, Saturday | Ironbank Fields
Both Teams to Score & Over 2.5 Total Goals | $1.95

Western United has sneaked their way into third, hosting top of the table Auckland FC.

Back in round 9, Western United handed the Black Knights their first loss, thrashing them 4-0. The leaders will be out for revenge this game and extend their lead at the top of the table.

Western will be without Angus Thurgate this week due to suspension and the Black Knights without midfielder Louis Verstraete and defender Nando Pijnaker.

I’m unsure which way this blockbuster match up will go but so I’m leaning towards the goals market.

Adelaide United
vs
Newcastle Jets
9:35pm, Saturday | Coopers Stadium
Adelaide United to Win & Archie Goodwin to Score | $2.45

Adelaide United have continued to be one of the best sides this season, led by golden boot contender, Archie Goodwin.

Goodwin goes up against his former side this weekend and after scoring the sole goal in last weekend’s match, I think he’ll find the back of the next once again to beat his former club.

Western Sydney Wanderers
vs
Macarthur Bulls
7:00pm, Sunday | CommBank Stadium
Both Teams to Score in the Second Half | $2.30

A flurry of first half goals set up a Bulls win on New Years Day when these two sides last met. Their 3-2 win was thanks to their two forwards, Jed Drew and Ariath Piol who have since departed the club.

The Wanderers return home after their late collapse that saw their 3-1 lead disappear in the last 5 minutes, settling for 3-3 in the Sydney Derby.

This game screams goals and I wouldn’t be surprised to see them come later in the game. The safe play would be to the total goals, but I feel there is some value in backing the second half goals total.
