Arkansaw Kid was withdrawn from Caulfield last week for this easier race. Trained by Lindsay Park, the sprinter was impressive in the Regal Roller two weeks ago, powering down the outside to win by three-quarters of a length. This race is tougher, but with a step up to 1200m and a strong second-up record, he’s the one to watch.
The unbeaten Epimeles is the favorite in the McKenzie Stakes. The three-year-old colt by Dundeel last won the ANZAC Day Stakes at Flemington, pulling ahead by 1.75 lengths. With a great setup at 1200m and starting from the inside gate, he looks like the horse to beat.
Estriella will race at The Valley for the first time, starting her season fresh. The mare by I Am Invincible made a big impression in the autumn, winning the Group 3 Kevin Hayes Stakes by two lengths and later taking the Inglis Sprint and Sunlight Classic. She’s had strong trial form leading up to her return and is expected to be a key contender near the front of the pack.
